iLibrary was built breadth-first: it supports every function that a research/legal organization needs to run a production digital repository service, but as simply as possible. The project focus was on building a production quality system. It complements and was influenced by previous research in computer science and digital library architectures. Our goal was to build a system that would be immediately useful to all while preserving uniqueness.
We are always working to add features and improve the different functions of the system as we learn what users actually want, and how to best support such complex requirements as digital preservation and digital rights management.
